Minneapolis Tips
These are some of Jane and Chip's favorite places in Minneapolis. This is the first city they made a home and where they decided to spend the rest of their lives together. It's a great town so get out and enjoy it!
Eat
Breakfast
- Tilia (Linden Hills) - Just a short bike ride away from Chip and Jane's Minneapolis home, it's one of their favorite neighborhood spots for brunch or an evening drink. Recommendation - Biscuits and Gravy with a smoked egg and Chilaquiles
- Moose and Sadie's (North Loop) - Classic breakfast cafe blocks from Chip's old office and feet away from the source of the engagement ring, Filigree. It's a great place for a simple meal at a good price. Recommendation - #3 (2 eggs, potatoes, breakfast meat, and toast)
- Our Kitchen (Uptown-ish) - Just a short bike ride away from Jane and Chip's Minneapolis home (seeing a pattern?), Our Kitchen is a tiny joint serving diner classics. Recommendation - it's all good
- Spyhouse (Uptown or North Loop) - Home of Jane's favorite latte, the Spygirl. It's a great place for a cup of coffee and a pastry. Recommendation - Spygirl and a croissant
Lunch/Dinner
- Matt's Bar (South Minneapolis-ish) - Famous for Jane and Chip's annual Valentines Day date and the Juicy Lucy (mainly the former), Matt's is a laid back bar with great burgers and a juke box. You may have to wait but it's worth the experience. Recommendation: Jucy Lucy (hamburger filled with molten cheese) or the double cheeseburger with a big basket of fries (Pro-tip: it's cash only)
- Martina (Linden Hills) - Home of friendly bartenders and an eclectic Argentinian menu, Martina is one of Jane and Chip's favorite date spots and the inspiration for their honeymoon destination + wedding dinner menu. There may be a wait but it's worth it. Recommendation - cacio e pepe and empanadas (Pro-tip: dinner only during the week)
- Butcher and the Boar Beer Garden (Downtown-ish) - One of Chip and Jane's favorites for after work drinks, Butcher and the Boar serves up meat in all forms with a great, enclosed beer garden in the back. Recommendation - Sausage sampler, Beer Brat Shot, Red Hot Brussel Sprouts
- Young Joni (Northeast) - Almost the scene of Jane and Chip's wedding and many a date night, Young Joni's menu is a mix of pizza and Asian fusion. It's amazing despite the seemingly odd concept. Recommendation - Bibam Grain, Prawns, Sweet and Spicy Pork Spare Ribs, Margherita pizza, and Korean BBQ pizza
- 112 Eatery (Downtown) - One of the stops on Chip and Jane's first date, 112 has a great affordable menu for dinner or late night treats. Recommendation - 112 Burger, 112 Steak Tatare, Stringozzi and Tres Leches
Drink
- Tattersall Distilling (Northeast) - Great atmosphere and great cocktails. One of Jane and Chip's favorite places for Saturday afternoon drinks. It's off the beaten path but is worth the trip. Recommendation - Tea Time or Old Fashioned
- Dangerous Man (Northeast) - Right next to Young Joni, Dangerous Man is a local brew pub pumping out unique beers. It's like a coffee shop with tasty booze treats. Recommendations - Peanut Butter Porter, Kolsch, Tropical Milkshake IPA, any of their sours
- Modist Brewing (North Loop) - Just outside of downtown in the North Loop, Modist is an extremely casual spot to have a local brew. Jane and Chip loved Modist for after work drinks. Recommendation - Supra Deluxe, Dream Yard
ACTIVITIES
- Stone Arch Bridge (Downtown) - This is the center of the remaining mill district in Minneapolis. The bridge is the focal point but the area around it has been built up with the Guthrie Theater, condos, and restaurants. The bridge gives you a great view of the city and the mighty Mississippi River.
- Walk/Drive Lake of the Isles, Lake Calhoun, or Lake Harriett (Uptown-ish) - Minneapolis is called the city of lakes for a reason. It's done a great job protecting the water front. Whether it's on foot or in a car, taking in the beautiful lake views and houses is quintessential Minneapolis.
- Minneapolis Institute of Art (south of Downtown) - Jane and Chip chose this as the location for the wedding for a reason. The museum has wonderful art (a few Monet and Van Gogh) and if the weather pushes you inside, this is a great place to spend an afternoon.
- Minnehaha Falls (South Minneapolis) - A short drive from downtown, Minnehaha Falls is a surprisingly large (53 feet large) waterfall along the Minnehaha Creek. If you want a quick slice of nature within the city limits, this is a great spot to check out.
- Walk Around Uptown (Uptown) - Little commercial area tucked south of downtown Minneapolis, Uptown is a great place to shop, eat, and drink. This was the epicenter of Jane and Chip's lives in Minneapolis.
